Jinki was told that the city's best forensic scientist worked in his district and he was about to meet him now. He'd only heard good things about the guy, except the occasional 'he's so hard to figure out' and 'he's such a slut' which he thought applied to almost everyone in the scientific field, so he let those comments slide. He pictured a large, magnificent laboratory with pristine white walls, very much unlike his cramped up space in the third floor. That and the respected doctor would welcome him, a fellow colleague, with a calculating smile and they would discuss new DNA techniques over coffee.
Everything sounded too good to be true, but hey, if it was a revered scientist, Jinki's imagination shouldn't be far from reality.
Jinki was in speechless shock. They stood awkwardly in the middle of a dark, cold morgue in the basement, staring at someone who stood in front of a dead body while dangerously wielding a whirring chainsaw.
“Whoa!” Jinki's companion, Jonghyun exclaimed. “What the hell do you think you're doing, Kibum?!”
Oh. This was the revered Dr. Kim Kibum? Jinki stared at the shock of blond hair with streaks of pink, the many piercings in each ear, and the Spongebob pants under the blood-soaked lab coat. Somehow, something was amiss, if not everything. He turned to his other companion, Taemin, for help, but the boy was busy flattening his hair and throwing shy smiles towards Dr. Kim for reasons Jinki couldn't understand.
“What? I'm doing an experiment!” Dr. Kim's voice rang through the morgue as a shrill cry. “I wanna know if the marks on this body are from a chainsaw.”
Jonghyun was flailing again. “But don't try it on the body! I thought you had gone insane!”
“I wasn't going to, okay! I was going to try out using this pig.” Kibum gestured towards an animal carcass on another table.
“T-that's animal cruelty,” was the only thing Jinki could say. Softly.
Suddenly, Kibum's eyes narrowed at him. “Who's this?” he cautiously asked, approaching Jinki slowly. “Is he the DNA expert and the one who tripped over the body and smeared blood all over himself?”
Jinki wanted to cry.
Jonghyun nodded. “Yeah, he's Dr. Lee from third floor. He's the best...well, the only one up there who processes your stuff.”
Kibum studied him for a bit before nodding. “Hello. Your shirt looks ridiculous. You should go shopping with me sometime. Also, the pig had cancer and died yesterday because of complications. I didn't kill it for the sake of chainsawing it. Oh, hello, Taemin-ah!”
Jinki blinked at the speedy course of the conversation, but realized that he'd been forgotten in favor of Kibum doting on Taemin for some reason. Taemin smiled his widest and let Kibum run his fingers through his hair. Somewhere in the background, Jonghyun was making weird groaning sounds.
“You're still as cute as ever. Jjong isn't overworking you, right?”
Taemin shook his head. “He's really nice to me, don't worry. But I wanted to see you so badly!”
“Ahem.” Jonghyun moved towards the cadaver on the table. “Mind getting back here so we could finish early? Jinki-hyung is busy, too.”
Kibum immediately turned back, leaving Taemin sulking and making faces at Jonghyun when Kibum wasn't looking.
“I already finished the autopsy minus these marks on the thigh, which I think are from a chainsaw, okay. I found something interesting, though.” He handed Jonghyun a metal plate with a small bone covered slightly in flesh. “I found this in the stomach. What do you think?”
Jinki cringed and backed away before realizing he was leaning against the body freezer. He immediately moved away, but not before banging against the table and making the dead body lurch a bit. Kibum threw him a warning glare before turning back to the discussion.
“He swallowed a tooth?” Jonghyun dumbly suggested.
With an exasperated sigh, Kibum opened his mouth to start a rant about how Jonghyun didn't think most of the time because his brain fluids moved to his muscles, but Taemin suddenly spoke.
“Oh, it's a distal metatarsal bone, right?”
Kibum's face was of unadulterated awe. “You are so amazing,” he gushed at Taemin before nodding. “It's a finger bone, which means he somehow swallowed a finger—his finger—before he died. Gross isn't it?” Then, he looked at Taemin again. “You know a lot of things!”
“Of course,” Taemin shyly replied, wringing his hands. “I'm often told I'm pretty smart for my age so...”
“God, you're so cute when you blush!!” Kibum grasped Taemin's hand. “You should go out shopping with me sometime!”
Taemin blushed. “R-really? I can? Can it be a date?”
“Is that how you call shopping sprees? Then it is!”
“C-can I call you Kibum? I really like your name.” Taemin stumbled over the last line, but Kibum only ruffled his hair again.
“Of course, aegi, you can call me whatever you want.”
“I think I'm going to throw up,” Jinki suddenly said.
Jonghyun sighed. “What, from the finger or from the fluff?”
Jinki decided on both.

Oh, it's not obvious in the minifics since there are just three but let's see:
Minho is the head inspector of the department
Jonghyun and Taemin work under him and are detectives (and partners, as in professionally lol)
Kibum is the head coroner and sometimes does extra forensic work bec. they lack people
Jinki works the lab/DNA analyses/fingerprinting and evidence processing

While thinking of scenarios for this we tried to put Minho somewhere, you know below boss level. But it doesn't work well LOL. He does seem to be the type who's competitive and hates being overtaken so naturally he'll rise up the ranks and bully other people XD; It's just hard though since technically those are his hyungs he's bullying XD
