Kibum hated getting up close and personal with his fans.

It wasn’t that he didn’t like his fans—in fact he loved them dearly. But he preferred giving a sense of mystery and keeping his distance. He would take photos with his fans, sign autographs, and chat with them but only in official events. After competitions and exhibitions, he preferred getting off the beach early to rest and feel at peace.

But there were still times when he couldn’t resist. Like this time his cousin Jonghyun went up to him after an exhibition and introduced him to Lee Jinki, a supposed avid fan of Key (Kibum’s screen name) and waterskiing.

Kibum wanted to spare the man a simple greeting, a smile, maybe an autograph. But Lee Jinki, whoever he was and wherever he came from, smiled so happily and grasped his hand so tightly that Kibum found himself surprisingly turning pink at the attention. Then Jinki made a lengthy comment about how Kibum looked more beautiful up close and how his waterski stunts took people’s breaths away and Kibum was sold. He found himself sitting with Jinki by the beach and considering teaching his loyal fan a few waterskiing tricks.

He should’ve realized the first time the fan stumbled face first into the sand because he tried to walk funnily with skis on that when Jinki said he was a waterskiing fanatic, it meant watching the sport, not doing it.

After a few minutes and after Jinki’s few attempts at imitating Kibum’s toe tricks, Kibum watched Jinki take a tumble as he lost his hold and slipped under the water. Panicking for a bit, Kibum yelled at the boat driver to stop, unbuckled himself from the boat and quickly dove under the water to save Jinki’s wet ass (which was a gorgeous one, by the way, if Kibum might add).

"Are you insane?!" Kibum screamed as he hauled a sputtering Jinki out of the water, supporting the larger man’s body so they float effortlessly against the waves. "Why didn’t you tell me you’re a beginner at this?"

Jinki just gave him a wet, salty smile as he eased away from Kibum’s grasp. Apparently, he can at least swim on his own. As Jinki blinked the water out of his eyes, Kibum gingerly placed his hands on the fan’s shoulders, gently pushing him towards shallower water until their feet can touch the bottom of the water.

"Now tell me," Kibum said, eyes narrowing. "Are you really into waterskiing or you and Jjong are just messing with me?"

Jinki coughed up some water before blinking at Kibum, eyes wide and mouth open in surprise. “I’m sorry,” he started to say. “I…I’ve never waterskied before. But I really think you’re beautiful when you do.”

Heat creeping up his cheeks, Kibum opened his mouth to say something, but before he could do so he felt himself getting heaved by an oncoming wave. Tightening his hold on Jinki, he leaned closer as they were driven towards the beach, heads submerged in ocean water before landing on the sand.

The force of the waves caused Kibum to push himself against Jinki, his head accidentally colliding with his fan’s. Before he could move away, Jinki unconsciously pulled him, accidentally brushing their mouths together as they tried to get a hold of their balance.

Kibum knew he should move away fast—he was with a stranger after all and he only knew Jinki’s name, mainly because the young man only talked nonstop about his admiration of Kibum. But Jinki’s plump lips were soft and inviting, the slight saltiness from the water adding to the tingling sensation. Kibum found himself leaning down deeper to press his lips fully against Jinki’s own, barely hearing Jinki’s muffled sound of surprise. He could feel Jinki’s hands awkwardly resting against his bare back before he found himself rolled onto his back with his fan looming above him.

"Key…" Jinki breathed, his lips red and seemingly aching for attention Kibum knew he could give.

"Kibum," he answered breathlessly as he sat up. "You can call me Kibum."

Jinki seemed in shock. “I…I’m really sorry. I should have…”

Kibum only smiled, his eyes moving down from Jinki’s eyes, down the man’s wet shirt, appreciating the view. “To be honest, you don’t look bad yourself, Jinki-ssi.”

"Huh?"

The beach star moved his eyes up once more, meeting Jinki’s widened ones. “Do you want to continue this somewhere less salty?”

Jinki paused for a moment, and Kibum’s confidence was waning as the other didn’t show signs of being interested. But then Jinki smiled widely, teeth flashing against the sun and eyes crinkling into slits.

Kibum decided that he needed to get up close and personal with just this one fan.
