| It’s probably the way Jinki calls his name that makes Jonghyun immediately focus his eyes on the leader. Jinki says Jonghyun’s name like he’s breathing in syrup, the sound of ‘J’ sliding smoothly between his teeth as he purses his lips a bit. His lips turns into a full ‘O’ before pursing once more, the sound of ‘NGH’ like a cute puff of breath released from the back of his throat. The sound of ‘UN’ turns up his upper lip quite adorably, almost like a pout, only to gently open up once more to add a suffix of affection with “AH”. Jonghyun would see the hint of a satisfied grin hidden behind the spoken syllables, as if Jinki gains pleasure in pronouncing Jonghyun’s name. But it’s also probably the way Jinki smiles at him that makes Jonghyun’s heart skip a bit. Jinki usually smiles widely, pearly teeth flashing between pink lips, and making girls swoon. But Jinki gives the members different kinds of smiles, too: a wide one filled with fondness for Taemin, a wide-open near laugh for Key, a lopsided smirk of a challenge for Minho. But for Jonghyun, Jinki always wears a close-mouthed smile, the end of his lips upturned in amusement and his bottom lip pushed out a bit. Jonghyun would watch Jinki’s eyes reduce themselves into thin crescents, mirth crinkling at their ends, as if smiling at Jonghyun makes Jinki so happy. But then it’s probably the way Jinki approaches him that makes Jonghyun unconsciously smile. Jinki walks up to him in playful steps, fists out in front. As he reaches Jonghyun he’d stretch his arms to gently land his fists on Jonghyun’s stomach, silently teasing with a fake grudge about the younger man’s defined muscles. Jonghyun then wraps his own hands around those small but strong fists, feeling their warmth with his bigger and rougher palms. Jinki’s hands are so soft that it’s sometimes hard to imagine how much strength is hidden in them. Jonghyun catches himself before he enjoys the smooth skin and soft muscles of Jinki’s hands too much. He starts mocking the older guy and making random comments, sometimes mere gibberish just to make the other laugh. Soon they forget about their connected hands as they laugh and joke around, fingers unconsciously intertwining until someone passes by or until it’s time to get in front of the camera. And yet there’s also the way Jinki playfully talks with him that makes Jonghyun laugh in amusement. Jinki can be firm and strict and serious whenever the situation calls him to be. But he also has a lot of puns and cheerful comments that he shares with the members, just a bit held back because well, no one really understands his puns. But with Jonghyun, he loosens up, using words Jonghyun only used to hear from Taemin and Kibum when they’re trying to win favors by acting cute. He joins in Jonghyun’s garble and laughs with him, sharing humor only they can appreciate. The others pass by, giving them raised (albeit amused) eyebrows and half smiles (or if it’s Kibum, a scathing comment about how the hyungs act like children). But Jinki just shrugs and smiles, infecting Jonghyun with a slight giddy feeling that lifts his mood for the rest of the day. Then there’s also the way Jinki stares at him that makes Jonghyun’s breath hitch. Jinki looks at Jonghyun a lot when he thinks no one is watching. His eyes become impossibly large and dark, seldom blinking as if he’s afraid he will not take in everything. His lips part slightly in concentration, as if studying Jonghyun’s face and physique is such an important task. Jonghyun feels the intensity of the stare and stares back, returning Jinki’s intense gaze with a questioning look. Sometimes, especially in front of the camera, Jinki just ducks his head or looks away with a small smile, as if he’s embarrassed and guilty about getting caught. But without the cameras, Jinki just narrows his eyes and tilts his head sideways, his lips curving into a suggestive smile. Jonghyun would then swallow, for he knows what’s about to come. Jinki’s soft voice and playful punches. Jinki’s small hands and small eyes and small smiles. Jonghyun doesn’t really know which of them makes his heart race like chariot on fire. He doesn’t know why or how it happens and when it started. All he knows is that it’s Jinki—something in Jinki that makes him warm and fuzzy all over. And that’s all he’s concerned about, especially as he watches Jinki follow the roving cameraman with his eyes, then turn back to Jonghyun, eye smile and mischievous grin intact as he leans in to press his lips at the corner of Jonghyun’s mouth. Jonghyun almost stops breathing. He only knows Jinki’s the one. And it’s the only thing that is important. |
