Minho slowly walked on the nightingale floor, uncaring of the whistles the floorboards made as they shifted under his weight. The guards outside were annihilated by fukiya darts, and the rest of the shinobi inside were sleeping peacefully because of Jonghyun’s specially concocted smoke bombs. There was no one else to stop their infiltration of the Lee clans’ household. He stopped by a wooden door, surprisingly unlocked. Calmly, he slid it open, not even unnerved by the darkness of the room. He closed the door behind him and jammed it with a tojime, making sure that no one would be able to enter the room without using brute force. He could see his target sitting on the floor by a small desk, sipping tea like his whole clan wasn’t in danger. But right in front of his target, a shinobi was in an assault pose, a naginata ready to strike in his hand. Even though he’s male, he wore a kunoichi’s garment—short pants that tightly encircled his thighs, accentuating his hips for flexibility; a dark robe making a poor job of covering a netted camisole underneath; a dark veil covering most of his face; and long socks that covered up most of his legs. Minho clenched his jaw; he knew that style too much because he had had so much fun taking it off the same boy in the past. Minho squinted and recognized the shinobi as Kibum, a former member of Jonghyun’s clan that betrayed them for this one. “You might want to move away, Kibum,” Minho quietly said, although he also fingered the shobo on his middle finger. “I have no intentions to respond to a traitor.” The shinobi hissed, but was silenced by the figure behind him. “Let him approach, Key.” Minho’s eyes narrowed. The leader of the Lee clan had spoken. He slid his foot closer, approaching the head of the clan. “Are you ready to accept your fate then, Lee Jinki?” The figure at the back laughed, then slowly rose. Kibum looked up in panic, but Jinki patted his head affectionately before passing him. The clan leader stopped until he was within a few steps of Minho, so near Minho could whip out his tanto and slash him. But Minho waited. There was something about the man’s smile that made him curious. “Choi Minho of the Kim clan. Invading my territory in the middle of the night has become one of your hobbies, hasn’t it?” Lee Jinki said, eyes probing Minho’s, making the other shinobi uncomfortable. Minho slowly took a step back, cautious. “You should know better than bait me, Jinki,” he said, losing all honorifics. “You know what I can do to you.” Jinki shrugged. “Did Jonghyun command you to kill me again?” Minho was surprised when Jinki started untying his robes. “You know that I do not die easily, Choi Minho.” The other shinobi swallowed. He had known of that legend. That Lee Jinki was invulnerable and cannot be touched even by the strongest warrior. He was best at combat in his clan and he was also the most intelligent shinobi in the area. Many attempts to poison him (as a last resort) were also in vain. Minho didn’t believe that the man couldn’t even be poisoned, but with the man’s confidence he was made to think otherwise. “Do you know why I can’t be poisoned, Minho?” Jinki asked. Minho shook his head, and Jinki turned to Kibum who looked up with a sneer. “Master Jinki cannot be poisoned because he is our poison chemist and he tests all our poisons on himself. His body contains too many poisons that it cannot be affected by anything else.” “That’s not true.” Jinki sighed, as if sad about his own strength. “I’m afraid it’s true, Choi Minho.” He took a step forward, and Minho stepped back once more. “Do you know how I can be defeated, then?” A small smile decorated the chemist’s lips. “I…don’t know.” Minho inwardly scolded himself. This was bad. He was starting to sweat, intimidated by Jinki’s mere presence. He shouldn’t lose focus or even be distracted. The clan leader bade Kibum to leave the room, and the shinobi begrudgingly crawled away to the door. He left, but Minho could still his presence from the other side of the door. When Kibum left, Jinki took a deep breath and untied the rest of his robes, letting them drop to the floor with a soft thump. “One of my secrets,” Jinki said, uncaring that he was completely naked to Minho’s eyes. “Is that my body temperature is cold. That means all the poisons inside of me are suspended in coldness.” Minho lost his hold on his weapons as he stared at Jinki. It was dark, but he could make out the silhouette of the leader’s body. “Jinki…” Jinki smiled, his teeth bright in the darkness. “That is why the only way to kill me, Choi Minho, is to warm me up.” He raised a hand to catch Minho’s chin, smiling when the shinobi shuddered at the sensation. “So, Choi Minho, are you willing to risk your life to kill me….by lying with me?” Minho’s tanto dropped to the wooden floor. |
