Another kick was delivered to his stomach and Jinki crumpled to the floor, gasping for breath. He tried to block another one coming his way, but the men just wrenched his hand away so they could reach his chest. Jinki coughed a bit, wincing at the taste of blood on his tongue.
He didn’t know how long he had been confined to this warehouse. All he knew was that his abductors knew when he was most vulnerable—when he’s on the way to university. They stopped his car and killed his driver and bodyguard before pulling him out and shoving him into an unmarked vehicle. They blindfolded him and tied his feet and hands, rendering him helpless and and in pain.
They left him in the darkness of an abandoned place for hours, and Jinki managed to deduce by then that he was in a warehouse, based on the boxes and chairs and layers of undisturbed dust. He crawled around, letting his tied hands study the surfaces of things he couldn’t see. He perked his ears and flared his nostrils; in the absence of his eyes, his other senses automatically became more sensitive. As he tried to remove his blindfold, his abductors returned to question and torture him.
He’d been kicked and punched and nicked with a knife, but he bit his tongue stubbornly. There was no way he’d voluntarily give them the location they wanted. They started threatening him that they’d kill him mercilessly, slowly drawing the life out of him while giving him the most excruciating pain. But Jinki didn’t budge. He might be nicknamed Onew by some because he was too gentle to be in this business, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t stubborn as hell.
He closed his eyes and tried to emulate what his late father taught him. When in grave danger, think of the family for they’d give strength and endurance unparalleled, and they’d always come to save him.
Think of the family, think of the family, Jinki pressed his mind. He would never ever give in to these punks who’d threaten his family the moment the information leaves his lips. The family, Jinki thought as he felt a foot pressing weight on his shoulder. It wouldn’t be long now, he’s sure.
There was a crash and Jinki heard screaming and bullets raining. He ducked and rolled away from the noise, his blindfold and ropes disabling him from escaping the line of fire easily. “Hyung!!” came the shout from afar. Jinki smiled despite the pain on his stomach and side.
He knew he would come.
“How dare you lay a finger on our boss, fuck you!!” yelled the same voice and there were groans of fallen men everywhere. “I’ll kill you all!”
“J-jong!” Jinki yelled with effort. “Don’t overdo it, Jjong!”
There was a sudden silence and Jinki sighed. It seemed his warning came a little late.
“Hyung!” Jinki winced as his blindfold was ripped off. He was sat up and his ropes were cut. “Hyung!” He felt fingers ghosting over his body, checking for serious injuries, bleeding and fractures. “You’re not bleeding are you?”
“Jonghyunnie,” Jinki said, smiling. “I knew you’d come.”
Jonghyun ripped his tie off his shirt and used to to wrap Jinki’s bleeding arm. “God, what did they do to you? You look like shit! Do you hurt anywhere?” Before Jinki could answer, Jonghyun enveloped him into an embrace. “I…I didn’t know how to find you at first, your GPS wasn’t working. But Taemin…Taemin managed to infiltrate their headquarters and found your location.”
“I’m sorry,” Jinki whispered as he leaned against Jonghyun’s chest. “I should’ve been more careful.”
“No, no, hyung. We weren’t able to protect you enough.” Jonghyun pushed Jinki to an arm’s length, wiping away the grime on his boss’s face. “I’m sorry I was late. If I wasn’t they wouldn’t have ruined your pretty face…”
Jinki laughed, but the pain made him cough. “Shut up and let’s finish this. Do they have men outside?”
Jonghyun helped Jinki up to walk towards their car. “There’re men outside by the gates but Kibum managed to silence most of them when he sneaked in. Minho and Taemin are at the docks, preparing our escape route.”
“Good. Do we need to go through more of them?”
“You know this gang is the size of an army, right?” Jonghyun was grinning as he helped Jinki into the passenger seat.
Jinki felt his chest for any broken ribs and flexed his fingers to see if they’re okay. “I know,” he said as he pulled out a case from the backseat. “Which is why we need to go all out.” He opened the case and pulled out an assault rifle. “Don’t stop me.”
“We already know you’re unstoppable, Hyung,” Jonghyun chuckled as he started the car. “If you don’t force yourself too much I might let you kick some ass.”
“If you let me kick some ass you might get some,” Jinki quietly said.
Jonghyun’s eyes glinted on the rearview mirror. “I’ll hang on to those words, Lee Jinki,” he said as they roared out of the warehouse to face the small army waiting for them at the gates.
