It was a myriad of exploding colors, almost like a kaleidoscope. There were flowers and clouds and plaids and checks and random starbursts of every color imaginable. Such psychedelic mess would have rendered anyone dizzy or insane or blind or doing some extreme reaction to a flood of colors--the pile of clothes on the counter was that deadly. "The shit is this?" Kibum asked, eyeing the pile with a bit of disdain. The head coordinator just smiled, her eyes squinting with her grin. "Oh, that's the theme you will work on." "What?!" Kim Kibum could have actually pursued better, more lucrative offers than working on rainbow-colored suits. He had been eyeing a scholarship on fashion design in London, and had considered working as an intern in a well-known high end store, and had applied to do on-the-job training in a popular fashion magazine. While it was true that he just graduated from school and had only performed as assistants in runway shows and events, he had been commended considerably for his eye for trends and his uncanny ability to make anything look good on a person. Really, he could have just done all of the above if not for two things: money and connections. Even if he were able to get the scholarship, he still needed money to survive in another country, not only for his prime needs, which included clothes to make him fashionably presentable, but also for his other needs like food. And of course he needed connections, needed more people to name-drop him in events, because you can only go further in this world when you have people backing up your creativity. So despite his other plans, Kim Kibum got trapped by the batting eyelashes and pitiful pout of his childhood friend and accepted the offer to be one of SME's costume coordinators. The work didn't seem that much, really. Kibum had done worse in school. They were often given a theme to work on when an artist was going to promote. When it wasn't about promotions they're free to dress the artist in whatever they thought was fine, of course with the consent of the said artist. Kibum thought it was pretty easy. Once you had a theme the rest would flow easily after all. But looking at the rainbow mess on the table and the poster on the wall which pictured the boy group assigned to him, Kibum realized how wrong his initial thought was. "What is the theme?" Kibum hoarsely whispered as he fingered a red and green plaid suit on the table with a bit of dislike. He loved colors but this one was really... Sohee, his childhood friend who was acting as a PA for a manager, beamed at him. "I have no fucking idea." "Watch your mouth, Sohee-yah," Kibum scolded as he went up to the poster on the wall. "You know guys don't like girls who swear too much." "Tch. Don't lecture me when you spout off curses like me." Kibum ignored his friend's annoyed cluck and studied the poster. He had been assigned to attend to actors before but he had never been assigned to a single group. This group named SHINE was said to be SME's most promising boy group and their image was said to be "contemporary." Kibum glanced at the table with the bright clothes. Contemporary, alright. He turned back to the poster. The four members looked at him with what teenage girls described as sexy-cute smoldering look (why there was such a look, Kibum had no idea). Beside each member were sets of numbers, which Kibum realized were their body measurements to make fitting easier. There were shoulder widths, waistlines, hip lines, length of legs, etc. They actually had impressive stats, although most of them were changed a lot, especially this guy Taemin's. There was so much erasure beside his figure that it was hard to see which were his new measurements. Well, Kibum couldn't expect anything else from a group that debuted during their teens. They grew too fast, really. In the poster, the SHINE members wore nice, crisp white shirts and slacks. Kibum studied each member and tried to imagine them wearing the brightly colored clothes. The leader Onew in striped multicolor, the lead singer Jonghyun in that plaid thing, the tall visual Minho in floral, and the maknae Taemin in neon checkered stuff. He couldn't help but burst out laughing. Sohee eyed him warily as she clutched her clipboard. "I'm...I need to be out in the studio now," she said, giving her friend a cautious look. "Don't go crazy, Bummie." Kibum waved her off as he continued to laugh. Sohee just rolled her eyes and left, leaving Kibum alone in the dressing room, clutching his stomach as he almost fell over laughing. He leaned against a chair in the middle of his laughter and lost his balance, but before he reached the floor, someone caught him. Kibum looked up, mid-chuckle dying in his throat as he blinked at his savior. "Uh, thanks." He quickly stood up and straightened his shirt and hair, clearing his throat as he gave a small bow to the other man, who he recognized as a member of SHINE. God, of all people to see him cracking up, why did it have to be one of those people he'd be working on continuously? The SHINE member, the one named Minho, studied him meticulously. "It's the first time I've seen a male fan sneak into our dressing room." His mouth was twitching at the corners, as if he was trying not to laugh. Kibum shook his head. "No, no! I'm...I'm not a fan. I don't even know you guys." The look on Minho's face was indescribable, his lips turning into a thin line as if he was trying to remain polite. Why was it that Kibum only noticed his lips anyway? "So...you're a burglar?" Minho carefully asked, eyes wide. Kibum broke into laughter once more, but this time Minho was more confused than amused. "I'm...hahaha. Oh god. I'm...s-sorry hahahaha. I'm..." He crumpled on the floor and continued to chuckle endlessly, not minding Minho's disapproving look. A few minutes later, Kibum had stopped laughing, mostly because his arm was held tightly by one of the security, and the SHINE members were eyeing him like he's some lunatic. "I'm...I'm the new coordinator. Didn't they say anything about me?" Kibum helplessly explained. "It's true! I got recommended by Sohee. Uh, you know, your managers' PA! Ask her! I'm sure she's right outside, that stupid girl..." "You mean...you're the new guy who's helping out with our promotions next month?" the leader, Onew, slowly asked. Kibum wondered if Onew just chose his words well or if he's a bit slow. "What? We have a new coordi? I thought we could do our own?" Jonghyun was munching on a cookie as he spoke. Kibum wished Jonghyun well on coordinating their plaid suits. The youngest member, Taemin, knocked a fist on a palm. "Oh, so that explains the weirdness!" Then, he smiled as if he had discovered a new planet. Shitty brat, Kibum thought as he was released by the bodyguards. He looked up and met Minho's stare again, his disapproving look gone and replaced with another amused reaction. Sighing, Kibum wondered if he'd made a wise decision to be SHINE's coordinator, psychedelic suits aside. tbc |
